"Wonders of Waco" Day Trip

October 16 | 8:00 am - 7:30 p.m. (approx.) | Depart from and return to Prosper Town Hall 

$140 per person

Register today for the "Wonders of Waco" Day Trip coming up on October 16! After departing at 8:00 am, as we travel south on I-35, there will be commentary about the sites we are passing from our Travel Texas expert Byron Cain. The morning will be spent at the Homestead Heritage Farm, a throwback agricultural center that includes historic farming methods and traditional arts and crafts. We will have lunch at the Farm, at the highest rated restaurant in the Waco area. The afternoon will begin with a stop at the Dr. Pepper Museum, where we will see displays devoted to that wonderful Texas soft drink.  The afternoon will wind up with a visit to the Magnolia Silos, the stores and grounds of the popular couple, Chip and Joanna Gaines couple. Arrival back is projected to be at 7:30 pm approximately, based on traffic.

Active Adult Lecture Series:  Cybersecurity

Sept. 15 | 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.  Council Chambers, Prosper Town Hall, 250 W. First St. 

The Active Adult Lecture Series returns after Summer hiatus with a discussion of Cybersecurity, led by the Prosper IT Department. Hosted at The 407 Rec Center, there is no charge for the lecture, yet please make a reservation so we can plan accordingly. Also known as computer security or IT security, cybersecurity is the practice of protecting computer systems, networks, devices, and data from theft, damage, unauthorized access, or other types of cyber threats. Come learn about this important topic and how to protect your sensitive data! Topics to be covered include:

  • Medicare/IRS scams
  • Commons scams that affect adults 55+
  • Social media scams
  • Medical device hacking
  • Phishing attacks
  • Ransomware attacks

Sleep Your Way to Better Health Lecture

Parkinson’s Disease Cause, Symptoms & Treatment Lecture

Nearly one million people in the U.S. are living with Parkinson's disease and this number is expected to rise to 1.2 million by 2030. Parkinson's is the second-most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer's disease. Attend this lecture to:

  • Learn the early signs of Parkinson’s and what to do after a diagnosis
  • Explore how to live well with Parkinson’s in every stage.

AARP Smart Driver Course

Dec. 11 | 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.| The 4-7 Rec Center, 407 E. First St.

Instructor:  Judy Converso, AARP district coordinator

Dr. Converso is a native of western NY (Jamestown, south of Buffalo) and left for the sunshine in Central Florida in 1984. She then moved in 2017 to McKinney, TX to be closer to two granddaughters – ages 6 and 4. Dr. Converso earned her Ph.D. in 2001 from Florida State University (FSU) in Educational Research: Instructional Systems and has been in the field of education and training for 45+ years. She continues her teaching career as an adjunct professor teaching doctoral-level courses in her area of specialization. As a fun retirement adventure, she has been a district coordinator and instructor for the AARP Smart Driver Courses since 2013 - both in Florida and Texas.

The AARP Driver Safety has shown to be successful in changing driving-related behaviors among participants and more than eight in ten (83%) of participants said they would be likely to take the course again.  Learn more at aarp.org/drive

  • Learn research-based safety strategies that can reduce the likelihood of having a crash. 
  • Learn how aging, medications, alcohol, and other health-related issues affect driving ability, and ways to adjust to allow for these changes. 
  • Know how to drive safely when sharing the road with other road users. 
  • Learn when driving may no longer be safe . 
  • Learn the newest safety and advanced features in vehicles. 
  • Increase confidence.

Cost: $20 for AARP members, $25 for non-members

Required: AARP card (members only), valid driver's license, and payment (cash/check ONLY) to be paid onsite before the course.
